The search for an apartment will always accompany us with many factors to take into account -distance from the city center, location, number of bedrooms, square footage and more.

There is one factor, often considered secondary, that can affect your daily life in your new apartment- which floor the home is on.

Should we choose first floor, top floor or something in between? Each of these options has its pros and cons. We will try to list the most important features of all three options, leaving the choice and decision up to you.

First floor  

Advantages: no need to climb a lot of stairs or use an elevator- carrying bulky items and a lot of luggage is easier; no one below you- no worrying if you are disturbing the neighbors below; hot air rises up- cooler apartment in the summer; quick exit- eliminate the annoying going up and down several floors.

Disadvantages: Closer to the street - more noise ; banging from neighbours above; colder flat - need more heating in winter; higher risk of burglary.

Top floor

Advantages: more beautiful view; no noise from neighbours above; less noise from the street below-you have more peace of mind; warmer apartment-lower heating bills in winter; lower risk of burglary; 

Disadvantages: warmer apartment in summer- more need for air conditioning; moving is more difficult, especially if there is no elevator; taking up and down heavy furniture and purchases is much more time consuming; you have to be careful with noise- you have neighbors below;

Middle floor

Advantages:  less external noise than on the first floors; protected from the outside weather from above and below the apartment - warmer apartment; less climbing of stairs from the top floors;

Disadvantages: neighbours above and below- more noise from them and less quiet compared to the top floors; we have to be considerate and not make too loud noise; more stairs from the first floors- more difficult to carry large objects and luggage.

Each of the three options has its positive and negative features. Before we choose, we need to consider what is most important to us as a plus and what we can put up with as a minus.
